The Moldovan bass-baritone, Roman Ialcic, began his career as a member of the children’s choir “Sonor”. He studied conducting at the Academy of Music in Chisinau (1995-1997), where he also began his vocal studies with Professor Vladimir Dragos. At this time, his roles included Konchak in Prince Igor, Boris in Boris Godunov, Gremin in Eugene Onegin and Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra. He also sang Sarastro in
W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Open Air Opera Festival in Isny. He won a scholarship from the Moldovan Government to studies at the Richard Strauss Academy of Music in Munich with
Nikolaus Hillebrand (1997-1999), and since 2001 he has studied with Gisela Aulmann. He reached the final round of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in 2006.
Since September 2007, Roman Ialcic has been engaged as a soloist at the St Gallen Theater, Switzerland, where his roles have included Escamillo in
Georges Bizet's Carmen, Cascada in Die lustige Witwe, Lamoral in Arabella, Tomski in The Queen of Spades, Talbot in Giovanna d’Arco, Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata and Kaspar in Der Freischütz.
In Summer 2009, Roman Ialcic sang Abimelech in Camille Saint-Saëns'
Samson et Dalila at the St Gallen Festival (June-July 2009), and his later engagements include Varlaam in Boris Godunov at the Theater Klagenfurt (January-March 2010) and his UK début as Kaspar in Der Freischütz in concert with London Lyric Opera. Since August 2021, he is a member of Theater Trier. He currently lives in Trier, Germany. |
