The Korean pianist, Won-Sook Hur (Korean: 교수 - 호서대학교 ), obtained her degree from College of Music, The Seoul National University, Korea. She further received degree from Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien, Austria. During her studies in Vienna she has won several prizes in international competitions: She won the first prize in the Valsesia International Piano Competition, and prizes in G.B.Viotti, Ettore Pozzoli and Città di Marsala.
In 1988. Won-Sook Hur had the honor to be appointed Professor by the Department of Music of the Hoseo University in Korea. She successfully balances an active performing career as soloist and chamber musician with teaching as Professor. She has performed with many symphony orchestras at home and abroad, with the Korean Symphonic Orchestra, Chungnam Orchestra, Masan City Orchestra, Cheonan City Orchestra, Kangnam Symphonic Orchestra in Korea, and with the Oradea National Orchestra in Rumania, Shanghai Radio Symphonic Orchestra, Palermo Youth Orchestra in Italy. Her career has brought appearances on the invitation of music festivals, among others, Festival Pablo Casals in Prades (France), The Emanacje Music Festival in Lusławice (Poland), the Beijing International Congress on Women in Music (China), and the Krasnoyarsk International Music Festival (Russia). In Korea her talent as pianist has led to an invited pianist in Kumho Special Concert Series.
Her CD with the Diabelli-Variations (L.v. Beethoven) and Suite per pianoforte (Jeajoon Ryu) was released in 2016 by DUX and received rave reviews from Pizziccato of Luxemburg, she also recorded another CD FOR dux in 2014 with piano works of César Franck, Ravel, Geonyong Lee and Sergei Rachmaninov. |
