The Dutch organist, harpsichordist and conductor, Jelte Hulzebos, studied organ and harpsichord at the conservatory in Groningen with Wim van Beek and Jacques Ogg. For organ he earned the diploma solo playing ‘Cum Laude’ and his Harpsichord study was completed with the Performing Musician’s diploma. He earned the Bachelor of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Constantijn Huygens, and the Master of Music diploma of orchestral conducting at the Messiaenacademie, both under Tilo Lehmann.
As cantor-organist of the Nieuwe Kerk in Groningen Jelte Hulzebos is the regular player of the Timpe organ of 1831, and he also leads the Cantorij of the Nieuwe Kerk. Since 1991 he has played an important role in the organization and performance of the monthly cantata services in this church. He has performed numerous works here from the 17th and 18th centuries, including J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), and Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248). Jelte Hulzebos is also the conductor of the Cantate Consort and the Gronings Kamerkoor.
Jelte Hulzebos has made recordings of the famous Arp Schnitger organs in Noordbroek and the Martinikerk of Groningen one of the most important organs of Europe.
Besides his concert activities as organist, harpsichordist and conductor, he also offers instruction in these fields. |
