The Isreali pianist, Daniel Höxter, comes from a musical family of Russian-German descent. He received his musical training at the Israel Academy of Music of Tel Aviv University with major teachers Ilona Vincze-Kraus (piano) and Ödön Partos (chamber music) as well as Nikita Magaloff, Rudolf Serkin, Maria Curcio and Wührer. In 1967 he took part in the Arturo Toscanini Seminars for chamber music, where he co-operated with Isaac Stern, Eugene Istomin and Leonard Rose.
Daniel Höxter is one of the outstanding pianists of his generation. His playing emphasizes the ideal combination of a strong musical personality and excellent pianistic skill, with intelligence, fire, imagination, and the highest taste. («virtuos und durchgeistigt» Press quote). He has made a name as Johannes Brahms, W.A. Mozart and L.v. Beethoven interpreter. His extensive repertoire includes among others more than 70 piano concertos and the entire chamber music literature, as well as rarely performed works by known and unknown composers, including those of the 20th Century.
One of the highlights of his career successes include his triumphant American debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw performance of Burlesque by Strauss, and in his homeland, where he played the Dvorak Piano Concerto with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the trio evening in Berlin, which was the basis of the Israel-Trio.
His great talent in the field of chamber music took place in international recognition of his collaboration with world-famous musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Wanda Wilkomirska and ensembles such as the Vermeer Quartet (Chicago), the Orlando Quartet, the Neuen Zürcher Quartett, the Danzi Quintet (Amsterdam), the woodwind soloists of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Philharmonischen Virtuosen Berlin.
Daniel Höxter is ery well respected also for his educational activities. He serves as professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and since from 1997 to 2002 at the Conservatory of Schaffhausen. He teaches piano and chamber music at Collegium Artis. He also participates in international master-classes, as invited by Sandor Vegh at the European Mozart Akadmie (Prague and Krakow) and at the Kammermusikfestuival Prussia Cove, England. Also noteworthy is his over 30-years experience with the Alexander Technique.
His CD recording of the Diabelli Variations received world-wide attention, ans so other recordings, such as the 24 Préludes Op. 28 by Frédéric Chopin and the piano trios of J. Brahms.
