The Dutch organist and choral conductor, Sander van den Houten, completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the Rotterdam Conservatory (2007), studying organ with Bas de Vroome. There he also took church music with Hans van Gelder, Arie Hoek, Conny de Jong and Aart Bergwerff. In 2013 he graduated with a first for his Masters Organ at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle with Theo Jellema. He took private lessons in choir direction with Wiecher Mandemaker. Since mid-2021, he studies carillon with Frans Haagen and Christiaan Winter at the Beiaardschool in Amersfoort.
Sander van den Houten was appointed organist of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Hague in April 2017 which makes him the main player of the famous Bätz organ of 1762. He is also the named organist of both the Burgwal Church and the Broederkerk in Kampen (since September 2009) and second organist of the Bovenkerk there. As a conductor, he is associated with five choirs and he is the Cantor of the Theological University in Kampen.
In addition, Sander van den Houten is also the permanent accompanist of a number of choirs, including the Kampen Boys’ Choir and the Roden Boys’ Choir under the direction of Rintje te Wies. He performs many concerts annually as soloist, accompanier and continuo player and has a private practice. |
