The Dutch soprano, recorder player, and choral conductor, Joalien van den Houten, has sung in choirs from an early age. At Goeree-Overflakkee and Zeeland she tarted developing her inging voice in a choir and she received singing lessons from Wim Boer. After her entrance exam in 2015, she received singing lessons at the ArtEZ conservatory in Zwolle from Harry van Berne (tenor). Since 2018, she has been taking singing lessons with Heleen Koele (soprano) in Zwolle.
Joalien van den Houten really enjoy organizing concerts herself. She recently performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Maria den Hertog, which was a fantastic experience. Concerts i.c.w. choirs are also great, so she thinks it is fantastic to get a small solo role during a beautiful choir concert. Or to sing the well-known and lesser-known oratorio works, cantatas by Bach and so much more. On June 20, 2015 she obtained her D-diploma practice in the Emmaüskerk van Sommelsdijk (Goeree-Overflakkee), after many inspiring lessons from Elly Bakker.
Before Joalien van den Houten took the step to become a freelancer in 2018, several choirs came to her asking if she wanted to conduct them. As a singer she has already had several inspiring conductors in front of her and she thought it would be fun to lead a choir for once. So she started working as an autodidact and there are courses where she could learn and improve techniques. In addition to conducting, she also really enjoys organizing and she likes to help make the programs into a coherent whole. The choirs have music and artistic committees for this, in close cooperation they program the most beautiful music. She currently lives in Kampen, the Netherlands. |
