The Canadian baritone and music pedagogue, Bradley Hougham, was born and raised in Saskatchewan, where, with the influence of the CBC and an immensely supportive family, he developed a love for classical vocal music. He studied music at the University of Saskatchewan, receiving Bachelor of Music degree in Performance with Great Distinction. In the fall of 1996, he continued studies and professional aspirations brought me from Saskatchewan to New York City. He received a Professional Studies Diploma in singing from Mannes College of Music and Master of Arts degree in Music Performance from Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, The City University of New York. He has Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
Bradley Hougham has an ongoing career as a concert, recital, and opera singer. Among the operatic roles he has performed, his favorites are: Il Conte in Le Nozze di Figaro, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, and Schaunard in La Bohème. He sang in the chorus at the Metropolitan Opera for eight seasons and has appeared as a soloist in many notable venues, including Avery Fisher Hall, Merkin Hall, and Brooklyn Academy of Music. He is an avid recitalist, as well, and look forward to presenting many upcoming recitals, both at Ithaca College and beyond. His singing can be heard on two recordings, "Rossini in Venice" (Albany Records) and "Soldier Stories" (Mulatta Records), and he has been a featured soloist on National Public Radio. His goal for his performance career has always been to make great music with great musicians, and he has had the great fortune of working with some of the greatest conductors in opera, including James Levine, Valerey Gerghiev, Paul Goodwin, Jane Glover, and Richard Auldon Clarke.
Bradley Hougham joined the Ithaca College faculty in the fall of 2006 and serves there as Associate Professor pf Voice. He has also taught 11 summers in Spoleto, Italy. His students have been accepted for graduate studies in vocal performance at Eastman School of Music, University of Maryland, Manhattan School of Music, McGill University, Northwestern University, Mannes College of Music, Florida State University, San Francisco Conservatory, and University of Michigan. Additionally, current students and alumni were hired by opera companies including: Santa Fe Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Saratoga, Sarasota Opera, Shreveport Opera, Utah Festival Opera, DiCapo Opera and Caramoor Bel Canto Artists. Next season, one alum from his studio will be making his European Opera debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. |
