Scott Hogsed (Baritone)

Born: Marietta, Georgia, USA

The American baritone, Scott Harrison Hogsed, studied at Mceachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. He studied voice at Georgia State University in Atlanta; obtained his Artist's Diploma in Opera from Oberlin College in Ohio (Class of 1997); and studied also at Indiana University in Bloomington (2010-2013). He began his professional training with the San Francisco Opera Merola program singing the title role in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni.

During his five seasons at New York City Opera, Scott Hogsed sang the roles of Count Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Dancairo and Morales in Georges Bizet's Carmen, Fritz in Die Tote Stadt, Schaunard in La Bohème, Peter in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Anthony in Sweeney Todd. Other roles have included Schlemil in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Seattle Opera, Angelotti in Tosca at Atlanta Opera, the Baron in La Traviata at Kentucky Opera and Dandini in La Cenerentola at the Ash Lawn Opera Festival.

Most recently on the concert stage Scott Hogsed sang in Orff's Carmina Burana with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. With the Brooklyn Philharmonic under Robert Spano he sang the title role of Sibelius' Kullervo. He was soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah with Orchestra Atlanta, performed the title role in Verdi's Un Giorno di Regno at Caramoor Music Festival, sang the baritone solos in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) with The Atlanta Bach Choir, and was filmed for PBS as Ned Keene's Peter Grimes under the baton of Seiji Ozawa.

Other recent engagements include the roles of Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Germont in La Traviata, the baritone soloist in Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, and Signor Naccarelli in Adam Guettel's The Light in the Piazza at Indiana University. He will be heard later this season in the title role of Gianni Schicchi. He currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
