The American pianist, Randall Hodgkinson, Hodgkinson completed his Bachelor of Music degree with honors at New England Conservatory (NEC) in 1976, attending NEC during the era in which Gunther Schuller served as President, and was also soloist under Gunther Schuller while on a fellowship to Tanglewood. He obtained his Master of Music degree with distinction, Artist Diploma, also from NEC. He studied with Veronica Jochum, Russell Sherman, Leonard Shure. He won the International American Music Competition which was sponsored by Carnegie Hall and the Rockefeller Foundation.
Randall Hodgkinson has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and with orchestras in Italy and Iceland. He has also performed in recitals in the USA and Europe.
Randall Hodgkinson is an active performer of chamber music and is currently a member of the Boston Chamber Music Society (BCMS) and the Gramercy Trio, which features Hodgkinson on piano, violinist Sharan Leventhal, and cellist Jonathan Miller. In January 2013, they premiered Gunther Schuller’s Piano Trio. At the New England Conservatory of Music. He has performed chamber music at numerous festivals, including Blue Hill Festival (Maine), Bargemusic, Chestnut Hill Concerts (Madison, Connecticut), Seattle Chamber Music Festival, and Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. In addition to his solo work, he also performs the four-hand and two-piano repertoire with his wife Leslie Amper.
Randall Hodgkinson is currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and the Longy School of Music in Cambridge.
Randall Hodgkinson has recordings on New World, Albany labels. He has recorded solo music of Donald Martino and Roger Sessions and concerti of Gardner Read and Morton Gould. |
