The French organist and harpsichordist, Jean-Luc Ho, developed a passion for early keyboard instruments from a very young age. He started playing the harpsichord when he was 8 and later took an interest in the organ and the clavichord. He graduated from the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in 2006. Greatly influenced by the teaching of Blandine Verlet, he also benefited from the advice of Martin Gester and Jos van Immerseel .His taste for period instruments and the art of instrument making led him to build his own collection of keyboards, so as to further his research and experiment with new ideas.
As a harpsichordist, Jean-Luc Ho has given recitals in Paris (at Radio France and at the Eglise des Billettes), Chartres (at the Musée des Beaux-Arts), Brussels and London. As an organist, he has played on many listed instruments in France: Souvigny, Ste Croix in Bordeaux, Lorris en Gâtinais… A regular guest on France Musique as a soloist (Young Performers’ Series, Radio France-Montpellier Festival, Le Matin des Musiciens) he has chosen to devote his first harpsichord recording to J.S. Bach and François Couperin (recorded in April 2011).
As an orchestral soloist, Jean-Luc Ho performed J.S. Bach’s Triple Concerto under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken during his studies at the Conservatoire, the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 (BWV 1050) and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s D minor concerto Wq 23 at the Cité de la Musique, on one of the museum’s period harpsichords. This year he will be playing continuo with Le Concert Spirituel, La Rêveuse, Fuoco e Cenere, Ensemble Pygmalion, Sagittarius...
Jean-Luc Ho also teaches harpsichord and figured bass at Franconville (Val d’Oise), and enjoys sharing his passion with a wider audience at workshops in Royaumont a“nd at the Musée de la Musique in Paris, and with Arcal (compagnie nationale de théâtre lyrique et musical). |
