The German baritone, Stefan Heidemann, studied orchestral percussion at the Musikhochschule Hannover, before he began his singing studies with Charlotte Lehmann in Hannover. In addition, he attended master-classes with KS Josef Greindl and others. In 1990 he was winner of the Internationalen ARD Musikwettbewerb in Munich.
Stefan Heidemann had his first permanent engagement at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. Since 1991 he has been engaged at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, where he was appointed in 2003 Kammersänger. In Dusseldorf, he was able to develop the entire lyric baritone repertoire. Particular success he had as Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He made his debut in heavy baritone repertoire in in 2008 as Sebastian in Tiefland.
Stefan Heidemann also had a solid guest engagement at the Komischen Oper Berlin, where he sang roles such as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Ford in Falstaf and Tomsky in Pique Dame. Further guest engagements have led him to Mannheim, Munich and Tokyo, and to the Deutsche Oper and the Staatsoper in Berlin. At Staatstheater Saarbrücken he sang Lescaut in Manon Lescaut and the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and the baritone part in Carmina Burana. He also toured in Harry Kupfer’s production of Fidelio as Don Fernando at the Festival in Granada. In Saarbrücken, he appeared as Renato in The Masked Ball and at the Wuppertaler Bühnen as Germont in La Traviata. Another important step in his career was his debut as Wotan and Wanderer in Der Ring des Nibelungen at Theater Lübeck, which brought him nationwide enthusiasm. As Wotan in Die Walküre he performed in November 2011 with great success for the first time at the Teatro Municipal de São Paulo.
Future plans include: Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier at the Landestheater Linz and Orsini in Wagner's early work Rienzi at the Opera Toulouse. |
