The German organist and choral conductor, Franz Hauk, studied after high scool church and school music, with piano and organ, at the Munich Musikhochschule and in Salzburg. Among his teachers were Aldo Schoen, Gerhard Weinberger, Franz Lehrndorfer, and Edgar Krapp. In 1981 he received the master class diploma from the Musikhochschule München. Several awards followed. In 1988 he obtained his doctorate in Musicology with a thesis on church music in Munich at the beginning of the 19th century. As an author, he deals primarily with questions of source research, the edition and the performance practice.
Since 1982 Franz Hauk has served as organist at at the Liebfrauenmünster in Ingolstadt, and since 1995 also as choir director. He is also fond of contemporary music and always encourages composition commissions.As part of his urban commitment to an independent regional culture, he founded numerous concert series in Ingolstadt, such as the "Internationalen Ingolstädter Orgeltage", "Orgelmatinee um Zwölf" or "Musiknächte im Theater beispielsweise " at the Asamkirche Maria de Victoria. He has given important impulses for the Renaissance of the composer Johann Simon Mayr. He has given concerts in Europe and the USA. His work as a conductor has gained international recognition. In 2003 he founded the Simon Mayr Chorus, a vocal ensemble with professional aspirations.
Franz Hauk works as a juror in music competitions and conducts master-classes at international music festivals, the International Organ Festival "Megaron" Athens along with Jane Parker-Smith, Daniel Roth and John Geffert. Since October 2002, he has taught historical performance practice and church music at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.
Franz Hauk plays many radio and CD recordings. He has recorded for Carlton Classics, Guild, and Naxos. |
