Eva Haßbecker (Soprano)

Born: July 28, 1932 - Leipzig, Germany
Died: August 1, 2006 - Halle, Germany

The German soprano, Eva Haßbecker, received her training by G. Krake in Leipzig.

Eva Haßbecker made her stage debut in 1958 at the Landestheater of Gera (Thuringia), as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana. Until 1963 she remained an artist at this theatre and moved then to the Stadttheater of Halle (Saale). In addition to appearing at the Händel Festival there, she sang roles as Marschallin in Rosenkavalier, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Pamina in Zauberflöte, Leonore in Verdi's Troubadour, Aida, Amelia in Maskenball and Tosca. In addition, she gave appearances at stages in the USSR and in East Germany, and was an outstanding concert singer. In the concert hall she appeared in particular as J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel interpreter. Since 1976 she worked also as pedagogue in Halle.

Recordings: Eterna; she sang a small part in Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach on Ariola-Eurodisc.
