The German conductor, Guido Harzen, got his first piano and organ instruction in Düsseldorf, where he directed already very early several choirs, such as Jugendchores "Aufwind", Düsseldorf-Lörick. From 1988 to 1993 he studied catholic church music at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen with Professor Josef Bucher (organ), Professor Sieglinde Ahrens (improvisation), Professor Guido Knüsel (choir directing) and Professor Godehard Joppich (Gregorian Chant), and finished with the A-exam in 1993. From 1994 to 1996 he studied orchestra conducting at the Robert-Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, receiving diploma with honour in 1996.
In 1991 Guido Harzen took over the directing of the Chores der Katholischen Hochschulgemeinde Düsseldorf, which was re-named since 1997 as Junger KonzertChor Düsseldorf. Since 1993 he is Kantor and music director at the St. Josef in Neuss. In his post there he leads several municipal choirs.
Since the establishment in 2001 of the Jungen Philharmonie Düsseldorf - the partner orchestra of the Junger KonzertChor Düsseldorf - Guido Harzen is their musical leader. In the same year he was appointed by the Allgemeinen Deutschen Chorverband (General German Choir Federation) as Chordirektor ADC for at least ten-year period, for his outstanding practical guidance of choirs. He completes his musical work by various activities as conductor, organ soloist, Korrepetitor, music teacher and composer. |
