The American choral conductor and harpsichordist, Micaela V. Gutierrez Schmitz, studied at Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, California. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Political Science at University of California (UC) Berkeley (1991-1995); and her Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York (1995-1998). She continued her studies of Harpsichord and Fortepiano and Clavichord at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands (1999-2001). In 2003, she obtained her DMA in Harpsichord and Choral Music at Eastman School of Music.
Micaela Gutierrez is a seld-employed musician and teacher, an early music specialist - keyboard, vocal and dance. She has worked at Chipping Campden Music Festival Education (education, workshops etc); Worcestershire Early Music (early music education and performance); Harpsichord and Fortepiano Magazine (since 2002; editor of niche magazine for early keyboards); Early Music in the Vale (Director since April 2002; Broadway, Gloucestershire, UK). She married Jim Schmitz on December 17, 1998, and currenttly lives in Broadway, Gloucestershire, England. |
