The French viola da gamba player, Emmanuelle Guigues, studied the viola da gamba with Jordi Savall and Paolo Pandolfo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, then with Christophe Coin on the postgraduate course at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.
Emmanuelle Guigues performs and records with such ensembles as La Simphonie du Marais, Le Concert d'Astrée (Director: Emmanuelle Haïm), Les Paladins, xviii-21 - Le Baroque Nomade, Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester), Ricercar Consort (Director: Philippe Pierlot), and Allégorie. In 2004, she joined the duo formed by Hugo Reyne and Pierre Hantaï.
Emmanuelle Guigues has a keen interest in improvisation and the contemporary repertoire for viola da gamba, and plays works by such composers as George Benjamin, Philippe Hersant, and Claire Renard. She enthusiastically cultivates transversal encounters with the theatre (the Comédie Française, La Fabrique à Théâtre), cinema (she was musical director of a documentary by Bahman Kiarostami for Arte), and dance (with the companies Ana Yepes, Le Miroir des songes, Fêtes galantes, and Les Cavatines). Her recording of J.S. Bach's sonatas for viol and harpsichord with the harpsichordist Bruno Procopio was awarded a ‘Choc du Monde de la Musique’ in March 2008.
