Suze van Grootel (Soprano)

Born: 1953
Died: August 27, 2005 -The Netherlands

The Dutch soprano Suze of Grootel, began her musical career in the operetta association of Amsterdam West. Later, she decided to follow a vocational training and chose as always quality. She found in famous mezzo-soprano and pedagogue Cora Canne Meijer at the Sweelinck Conservatory excellent teacher and a friend for life. She sang at that time Dutch Vocal Ensemble Rudi Grasman, with whom she would later give numerous designs.

Suze of Grootel was particularly active in the field of oratorio and song. Her repertoire ranged from the late Middle Ages to contemporary music. She performed regularly with various ensembles and orchestras at home and abroad. Since 1988 Suze of Grootel was part of the ensemble Camerata Trajectina, which specializes in the Dutch music of the Renaissance and early Baroque. With this ensemble she was on extremely successful tours throughout Europe and the USA. Over the years, she made a successful series of CD recordings with this ensemble. Even in the more traditional classical repertoire she was at her best in songs. Klaas Posthuma, not coincidentally also the producer of Camerata, they took beautiful song CD with pianist Kees Schul as supervisor. Since 1988, she had formed a duo with pianist Kees Schul and made with him three CD's with songs by Francis Poulenc, Strauss and Felix Mendelssohn .

Suze of Grootel's greatest asset was Dutch songs and songs. Her Hadewijch Interpretation, the first after seven centuries, made a deep impression during the Early Music Festival Utrecht 1991. She enjoyed Tesselschade Festival in the Muiderslot (1996), she arranged the ticket sales from her farm. With Pat McArron's request songs of Bredero and Vondel in Amsterdam flat-sing, she had sometimes trouble, all she could do it like no other. It was almost a coming-out when she sang during his inaugural address Hadewijch not only in 2002 but also André De Vlieger Hazes. She was the only one who could both and everything in between. That left them hear the Van Hadewijch program to Hazes, which they further songs from the Gruuthuse manuscript and Hooft, Vondel, Servaes the kingdom, Johannes Verhulst, Coos Speenhoff, Annie Schmidt and Louis Andriessen performed, all perfect style faithfully and yet her own way. She has most recently sung at the Utrecht Festival 2004. She already had cancer. On August 27, 2005 the soprano Suze van Grootel (1953) deceased.
