The English bass-baritone, Edward Grint, is a recent graduate of the International Opera School at The Royal College of Music (RCM) and a former choral scholar of King's College, Cambridge (Class of 2012). He was awarded the top prize at the 24e Concours Lyrique in Clermont Ferrand in 2015, Second Prize at the 3rd International Singing Competition Pietro Antonio Cesti in Innsbruck and was a finalist in the 2014 London Handel Competition. He currently studies with Peter Savidge and is generously supported by the TF Willetts Foundation.
Edward Grint's Recent roles include Polyphemus in George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea (Opera Grand Avignon), Gelone in Orontea (Wigmore Hall), Eddy in Greek (Tongyeong Festival, South Korea), Achilla in Giulio Cesare, (Concertgebouw, Amsterdam), Il Re in Ariodante (OTC, Dublin), Teobaldo in Faramondo (Göttingen International Handel Festival), Marchese in La Traviata (Iford Arts), Arcas in Iphigenie en Aulide (Theatre an der Wien), Brother in The House Taken Over by Vasco Mendonça (Aix en Provence, Strasbourg and Antwerp), Adonis in Venus and Adonis, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas (Innsbruck Festival), and Father in Akita Neige by Catherine Kontz (Grand Theatre Luxembourg). At the Royal College of Music, Edward performed Count Almaviva in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Isacio in Riccardo Primo (London Handel Festival), Splendiano in Djamileh, Mr Delancey in Aqualung (World Premiere), Garibaldo in Rodelinda (LHF), John Styx in Orpheus in the Underworld, Tirenio in Il Pastor Fido (LHF), 2nd Priest/Armed man in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Micha in The Bartered Bride,as well as scenes from Sid in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Olivier in Capriccio, Dr Falke in Die Fledermaus, Malatesta in Don Pasquale and W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. Other roles performed include Colonel in Patience (Musée D'Orsay, Paris), Hobson in B. Britten's Peter Grimes (CUOS), Mother in Die Sieben Todsunden (Cuenca Festival), Thoas in Iphigenie en Tauride (Euphonia), Zaretsky Eugene Onegin (Ryedale Festival) and Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte for the Rye Festival.
Already in great demand as a soloist, Edward Grint has worked with many leading ensembles. Highlights include performing a program of J.S. Bach and Johann Kuhnau Cantatas with The King's Consort (Director: Robert King) in London's Wigmore Hall, J.S. Bach's Lutheran Masses (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment), G.F. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis for the Three Choirs Festival in Hereford Cathedral (Philharmonia Orchestra), J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) for the London Handel Festival and The King's Consort, J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (Valletta Baroque Festival, Malta), B. Britten's War Requiem (Huddersfield Town Hall), Arvo Pärt’s Passio (King's College Cambridge, King's Place), J.S. Bach's Coffee Cantata (BWV 211) with Laurence Cummings and the Adderbury Ensemble (Holywell Music Rooms, Oxford), G.F. An equally passionate recitalist, Edward Grint has performed Vasco Mendonça's Three Songs of Larkin in Mexico, J. Brahms' Vier Ernste Gesänge, Dvorak's Biblical Songs, Finzi's Earth and Air and Rain and Let us Garlands Bring, R. Vaughan Williams' Songs of Travel, Robert Schumann's Liederkreis Op.24 and Ravel's Don Quichotte cycles. He has also recorded the baritone solo in Gabriel Fauré's Requiem (BBC Concert Orchestra) for a BBC Radio 2 broadcast, and High Priest, Judas and Pilate in St Mark's Passion by Charles Wood. He has recently recorded the role of The Poet in Edward Hughes' new opera When the Flame Dies and the role of Gavin Waylock in Joe St. Johanser's Clarges.
This season (2016-2017) plans include the roles of Polyphemus in G.F. Handel's Acis and Galatea (OTC, Ireland), Sylvano in Cavalli's La Calisto (La Nuova Musica), Elviro in G.F. Handel's Serse (Early Opera Company), as well as concert performances of Monteverdi Vespers (Dunedin Consort (Director: John Butt) , Edinburgh), Monteverdi Madrigals (Les Arts Florissants, Paris and Poland), Samuel Barber's The Lovers (Clermont Ferrand), W.A. Mozart's Requiem (St. Albans Abbey) and G.F. Handel's Messiah (Royal Albert Hall). |
