The German conductor, Günter Graulich, was active after his studies as a teacher in the high school service, as a director of church music at the Matthäuskirche in Stuttgart and than publisher's reader. In 1951 he created the Motettenchor Stuttgart and led it for 50 years.
Günter Graulich musicological and editorial activities contributed substantially to the choir work. In the centre of his the activity stood first early music (particularly with the works of Heinrich Schütz and J.S. Bach). Later Graulich turned his attention also to the heritage of the 19th Century. To his credit are the editions of works as Vivaldi's Gloria, the Dvorak's Mass and works of Josef Rheinberger from our time.
In 2001 the choir celebrated its 50th anniversary and - which occurs very rarely - under its founder and permanent leader. After the anniversary concert on Sunday, December 2, 2001 with the Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach, Günter Graulich handed over his choir to his successor Simon Schorr. |
