The Danish mezzo-sorano, Helle Fabricius Grarup, studied at Stenhus Gymnasium og HF in Holbæk (1988-1991). She trained as trained church singer at Kirkemusikskolen, Roskilde (1997-1999). She studied at Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium in Odense, where she obtained her Music-Education Diploma (2000-2005); and the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music (Class of 2005). Her singing teachers during her studiy period werre Lars Waage, Solveig Lumholt, Helene Gjerris and Tonny Landy, and currently Tonny Landy, Helene Gjerris and Douglas Yates. She also attended master-classes with Susanna Eken (Trondheim), Lorraine Nubar (New York), Tonny Landy (Løgum kloster), Helena Döse, Kevin Smith and Olov Olofsson (Göteborg). She participated in productions of Det Fynske Musikkonservatorium and the choir of Den Fynske Operas: Orfeos & Euridice by Gluck (2004), The Nightinggale by Igor Stravinsky (2005), Liden Kirsten by Hartmann (2005).
Helle Grarup is a very experienced concert and oratorio singer, and has coaborated with Øresund Barokensemble, Århus Sinfonietta, Leipziger Kammerorchester, Copenhagen Soloists (Director: Jonathan Ofir) and DR Koncertkoret (since 2010). She recently was the alto soloist in J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) with Copenhagen Soloists (2013), and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), with Copenhagen Kantatechorus and orchestra (the other soloists are Teit Kanstrup, Rasmus Ruge, Bo Kristian Jensen and Berit Manfred Jensen).
Helle Grarup is a soloist at Operaen/Det Kongelige Teater (Royal Danish Opera) since 2006. She has sung there roles such as Emilia in Otello, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, Death in The Nightingale, and more recently Kammerfrau in Wagner's Lohengrin, Sister Liliane in Heggie's Dead Man Walking, Assistent 2 in Svitlana Azerova's Momo og tidstyvene, Kate Pinkerton in Puccini's Madam Butterfly. She had great succes in 2017-2018 seasson with the production Lonely House, at Hoffteateret, Copenhagen Operafestival and Teater Undergrunden. She currently lives in Copenhagen, Denmark. |
