The Aamerican violinist, conductor and music pedagogue, Bernard Maurice Goodman, obtained his BS degree from Western Reserve University, Cleveland Insitute of Music. He also studied privately with Joseph Fuchs, Carlton Cooley, Arthur Shepherd and George Szell.
Bernard Goodman made his debut as a member of Walden String Quartet in Cleveland in 1934. He was a member of this Quartet from 1935 to 1974, including tours in USA and West Europe, major music festivals, concerts, etc. He was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra from 1936 to 1946.
Bernard Goodman was Assistant Professor of Music and Artist-in-Residence at Cornell University from 1946 to 1947; Professor of Music and Artist-in-Residence at the University of Illinois from 1947 to 1974.
Bernard Goodman was Conductor of the University of Illlnois Symphony Orchestra from 1950 to 1974 (including tour of Latin America in 1974); Conductor of Campaigne-Urbana Symphony Orchestra from 1960 to 1974; Conductor of Bloomington Normal Symphony from 1971 to 1974.
Recordings: Music by Walter Piston, Robert Palmer, Martinu, Zoltán Kodály, Szymanowski, Elliott Carter and Charles Ives (with Walden String Quartet).
Honours: Kulas Foundation Scholarship (1960); Honorary Doctor of Music Degree conferred by Naorthland College, ASshland, Wisconsin, USA. Membership: Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
