The Spanish-American soprano, Vanessa Goikoetxea, studied at the Conservatory of Bilbao and then moved to Madrid's Conservatory. She continued her studies with Edith Wiens at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in München where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Opera. She is a winner of the Deborah Voigt/ Vero Beach Opera Foundation Prize at Marcello Giordani Competition in the USA.
Vanessa Goikoetxea has emerged as one of the most sought after sopranos of her generation. She appeared in some among the most important international venues, working with such conductors as Fabio Luisi, Matteo Beltrami, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Carlo Montanaro, Patrick Fournillier, Diego Fasolis, Massimo Zanetti and Sir Andrew Davis.
In the 2011-2012 season, Vanessa Goikoetxea made her debuts at Teatro Perez Galdós in Gran Canaria as the First Niece in Benjamin Britten’s Peter Grimes under Pedro Halffter, at the Prinzregententheater Munich as Musetta in Puccini’s La Boheme under Ulf Schirmer and Fiordiligi in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. During the 2012-2013 season, she returned again to the Semperoper Dresden for the premiere of Henze's We come to the river, singing the role of Junge Frau under the baton of Erik Nielsen. She was also heard as Musetta in Puccini’s La Boheme under Pier Giorgio Morandi (September 2012-April 2013), as Alcina in George Frideric Handel’s Alcina under Rainer Mühlbach and Rachel in Halevy’s La Juive under Tomas Netopil (March-July 2013). She made her debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona as First Wood Sprite in Dvorák’s Rusalka under Andrew Davis (December 2012-January 2013).
During the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons, Vanessa Goikoetxea's engagements include her debut as Hanna Glawari in Lehár’s Die Lustige Witwe at the Semperoper Dresden under Alexander Joel and at Martina Franca’s “Festival della Valle d’Itria” in Italy as Armilla in Casella’s La Donna Serpente under Maestro Fabio Luisi giving her Italian debut (July 2014). She sang with big success at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the main role of Catalina, where she is returning to sing Boccherini’s La Clementina under the conduction of Andrea Marcon (March 2015). She also took part in Matsumoto’s “Saito Kinen Festival” in Japan, singing Alice Ford from Verdi’s Falstaff. She returned to Semperoper Dresden to be heard as Bystrouška (Vixen) in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen under Tomas Netopil (October-December 2014), but also as Musetta and Alcina under Rainer Mühlbach and Riccardo Frizza (April-June 2014). At Teatro Massimo in Palermo, she is performing one of the masterpieces from Hans Werner Henze's Gisela! (January 2015), singing the main role and debuting at the inauguration of the season with great success.
Some highlights of her recent and next engagements include The Cunning Little Vixen at Semperoper in Dresden (February-March 2017), Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahmss with the Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) at Liceu de Barcelona (June-July 2017).
Increasingly in demand on the concert platform, Vanessa Goikoetxea's recent engagements include Haydn’s Missa de Sancti Leopoldi and Visperae en Fa, Johannes Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem under Josep Caballe and the Basque National Orchestra, Felix Mendelssohn's Lobgesang, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, W.A. Mozart Arias Concert with the Basque Symphony Orchestra under Lorenz Nasturica. She is debuting under the conduction of Lionel Bruguiner the Symphony No. 2 of Gustav Mahler at Auditorio Miguel Delibes in Valladolid, Spain. She has performed extensively in concert and song recital. She has appeared on radio and has been filmed for television on many occasions. She currently lives in Dresden, Germany. |
