Klaus Georg (Tenor)

Born: March 20, ____ - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

The American tenor and voice teacher, Klaus Georg, obtained his Bachelor of Aarts degree in Music and Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis (1997-2001); his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Washington University in St. Louis (2001-2003); and his D.M.A. degree in Voice Performance and Opera from Northwestern University (2009-2011).

Klaus Georg specializes in oratorio and concert work spanning several centuries. He has appeared as soloist with many local groups, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Serenade to Music), the Grant Park Music Festival (MacMillan The Quickening), and Music of the Baroque, Chicago (St. John Passion (BWV 245); George Frideric Handel's Israel in Egypt, Dixit Dominus, and Judas Maccabeus). His performance of Monteverdi’s Mentre vaga angioletta with Music of the Baroque, Chicago was described by Chicago Classical Review as bringing “impressive flair to the swirling melismas.” A highlight of the 2015 summer season was his last-minute appearance stepping in as one of four soloists in MacMillan’s The Quickening under the direction of Carlos Kalmar at the Grant Park Music Festival with less than a week’s notice. The concert was an audience and critical success.

Klaus Georg is also active in modern and contemporary music, with recent engagements including Mason Bates’ Sirens with MusicNOW and the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey as part of Chicago Symphony Orchestra's At the Movies series. This season he also added the demanding role of the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) to his repertoire, and next season brings his debut singing J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) version of the Evangelist as well.

A member of the Grant Park Music Festival Chorus since 2008, Klaus Georg also serves as section leader in the Chicago Symphony Chorus (since July 2005) and is a member of the chorus of Music of the Baroque, Chicago (Director: Jane Glover; since November 2005). He is also Chorus Director of Beth Emet (since July 2007).

Dr. Klaus Georg served as Adjunct Professor of Voice at Carthage College (September 2009-December 2012); and as Voice Technique Instructor at Merit School of Music (September 2011-2013). He has served on the faculty of Loyola University Chicago Adjunct as Professor of Voice since September 2012. He currently lives in Chicago, Illinois.
