The English bass-baritone, William Gaunt, began his musical education in Yorkshire as a chorister at Ripon Cathedral. Following a choral scholarship to King’s College, Cambridge, where he read Classics, He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics from the University of Cambridge (1999-2002). He has since held posts in the Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford and Westminster Cathedral Choir (since September 2004).
William Gaunt is a freelance singer since 2004. He has developed a busy and versatile career as both a soloist and a consort singer. In the latter capacity he performs and records regularly with many of the UK’s most prominent ensembles, including The Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh), The King’s Consort (Director: Robert King), Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), Alamire and Gallicantus.
As a soloist William Gaunt performs much of the core concert and oratorio repertory, and has sung Puccini's Messa di Gloria with Ite O’Donovan at the National Concert Hall, Dublin; George Frideric Handel's Belshazzar at the Proms for Sir Charles Mackerras; J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Purcell's Come, ye Sons of Art, away and other odes with Paul McCreesh; Haydn's Nelson Mass, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, and Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust with Stephen Cleobury, as well as Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, G.F. Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation and W.A. Mozart's C Minor Mass.
Recordings include numerous performances with Westminster Cathedral Choir, The Gabrieli Consort, and Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine 1610 with Robert Howarth and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. |
