Gifu Bach-Chor (Choir)

Founded: April 1976 - Japan

Gif Bach-Chor (= GBC) was established in April 1976 by Takashi Uematsu with fifteen singers. GBC's first concert activity was started next year with perfomance of J.S. Bach's Cantatas BWV 4 and BWV 12. Since then, GBC has been performing J.S. Bach's great vocal works of Mass in B-minor (BWV 232), St. Mathew's Passion (BWV 244), St. John's Passion (BWV 245) and many from the series of Cantatas and Motets, and other composer's works inluding Requiem of Wolfgang Mozart, Masses of Schubert and Haydn, with orchestral acompaniments.

The GBC will exprience its 34th concert in 2003 (28th year). The number of members of GBC, which started from 20 in 1977 then saw the largest number of 70 after a decade, is now 50 at average.

In their regular rehearsals on every Friday, the GBC often sing through a whole music of J.S. Bach, Mozart or Haydn, with a good feeling and tension of "real" concerts on the stage. The GBC is well-known for its long spring and summer "holidays".
