The Italian pianist, Nicola Frisardi, began studying the piano with Marisa Somma at an early age. A grant from the Italian government recognizing his prodigious gift, enabled him to continue his studies at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He was student of Hans Leygraf and took part in the master-classes of Tatiana Nikolayeva, György Sebök and Elizabeth Leonskaja. Nicola Frisardi obtained several prizes in international competitions, including 3rd prize in Casella (1987), silver medal in Barcelona (1980), the special Bärenreiter Prize in the "Mozart Competiton" in Salzburg (1985). He was unanimously awarded first prize in the "International Invitational Piano Competition" (Palm Beach, Florida 1989). This led to invitations to perform throughout the USA (Lincoln Center, New York; Jordan Hall, Boston; Kennedy Center, Washington; Philadelphia...).
Nicola Frisardi has performed all over the world in the most important music centers such as the Konzerthaus in Vienna), the Wigmore Hall in London), the Louvre in Paris), the Herkulessaal in Munich), the Festspielhaus in Salzburg. He also played in Rome, Milan, Geneva, Zürich, Barcelona, Lisbon, Tokyo, and in cities throughout the USA. In his last appearance at Lincoln Center The New York Times said “Frisardi plays with intelligence, sensitivity and graceful virtuosity.” He has appeared as soloist with such distinguished orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic of Lodz, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Mozarteum Orchestra, the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Münchner Symphoniker. His repertoire includes most classical composers (Scarlatti, W.A. Mozart, Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms) as well as contemporary ones (Sergei Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ravel, Ferruccio Busoni, Luciano Berio...). Besides his solo career he has been member of the "Salzburg Piano Trio" for over ten years.
Nicola Frisardi serves on the faculty of the University Mozarteum, and gives master-classes in Japan, the USA and Italy, where he is artistic director of the festival “Castel del Monte” in Apulia..
Nicola Frisardi has recorded for Austrian, German, Italian, Spanish, American and Japanese radio and television. Deutsche Grammophon recorded live his debut in Tokyo. Nicola Frisardi also records for EMI, BMG Classics, Chesky and VAI Audio. His recording of W.A. Mozart's Concerti KV 271 and KV 595 with the Orchestra of the Mozarteum is in worldwide distribution on Chesky Records. His performance of the J. Brahms D minor Piano Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London was released internationally by Video Artists International in September 1996 (Hans Graf, conductor). |
