The German soprano, Dorothee Fries, studied after graduation from high school, first church music and later singing at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where she attended the master-class of Professor Judith Beckmann, and passed her concert exam with distinction.
Already during her studies, Dorothee Fries was engaged as soprano soloist with the Norddeutschen Rundfunk. In early years, she received multiple awards and scholarships, including of Nordrhein-Westfälischen Wirtschaft, the Richard-Wagner-Verbandes, and the Alfred-Töpfer-Stiftung Hamburg. Lastly, she won the Bach Promotion Prise (Bach-Förderpreisträgerin) of the Musikhochschule Hamburg. Then followed further studies in master-classes, including with Sylvia Geszty, Luisa Bosabalian, Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll.
Dorothee Fries has become an internationally sought-after soprano (soloist at the National Choral Festival in Tokyo). Her wide-ranging repertoire, from Early Music to world premieres of contemporary works, is documented in numerous radio and television recordings (NDR, HR, MDR, WDR) and CD productions. In addition to numerous concert engagements in Germany and abroad, she has appeared as a guest at renowned music festivals (Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Rheingau Musikfestival, Flandern-Festival, Thüringer Bachwochen, Musiksommer Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), and has worked with many renowned conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Sir Neville Marriner, John Nelson, Peter Schreier and Judith Beckmann. |
