The Austrian choral conductor, organist and composer, Rupert Gottfried Frieberger (= RPB), received his musical education at the Vienna University of Music and studied theology, as well as musicology, church music, organ, and harpsichord at the Vienna University, graduating as Master of Arts and PhD respectively.
Since 1969, Rupert Gottfried Frieberger has been a member of the Premonstratensian monastery in Schlägl and has been working there as director of music seminars and band leader. Moreover, he also lectures musicology and liturgics at the University of Salzburg, improvisation and performance practice at the University of Music in Vienna and at the Landesmusikschule Schlägl, where he is director/headmaster. As an expert, he oversees restoration and building work for organs in Austria, as well as abroad. He also collaborates with the music publishers Doblinger and Helbling, as scientific custodian and publisher (Dokumente zur Aufführungspraxis Alter Musik, Diletto Musicale etc.), as well as jury member at competitions, reviewer and musical author. His work as organist and conductor of mainly early and contemporary music, led him on concert tours all over Europe. He was part of many CD recordings and radio and television productions and was involved in several working groups (Internationaler Arbeitskreis für Orgelfragen) und and committees (Liturgische Kommission des Prämonstratenserordens).

Rupert Gottfried Frieberger has recived several prizes, including first prize at the organ improvisation competition in Haarlem in 1974, in 1984 and 1987 the Theodor Korner Prize for composition. The Golden Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria. |
