The American counter-tenor, Jeffrey Freuler, obtained his Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey (2004-2006), training as a counter-tenor in the voice studio of Thomas Faracco. While at Westminster Choir College, he was a member of the critically acclaimed Westminster Choir under the direction of Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt. He sang with the Westminster Symphonic Choir in performances of Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloe, Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust, and George Frideric Handel's Messiah. As a member of the Westminster Choir, he performed frequently with orchestras across the USA, including the New York Philharmonic and traveled to Charleston, South Carolina to perform at the Spoleto Festival, USA.
Since September 2011, Jeffrey Freuler is a member of the famed Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys under the direction of John Scott. He frequently performs with ensembles throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, most notably among them are Fuma Sacra and the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey, both under the direction of Dr. Andrew Megill, chorus master of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Carmel Bach Festival Chorale. With the Voices Chorale of New Jersey, he debuted as a counter-tenor in the role of David in G.F. Handel's oratorio Saul in which he was praised as possessing “…a voice more richly colored than many other countertenors” by Classical New Jersey Society. In recent seasons, he has performed the title role of Solomon with the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers, and a performance of Antonio Vivaldi's Beatus Vir with the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey. He has sung as soloist with the Westminster Kantorei and Fuma Sacra in a performance of J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and with Fuma Sacra in J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245).
In 2012, Jeffrey Freuler toured Germany and Denmark with the Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys. In the 2013, he was the alto soloist in a performance of Cantata BWV 115 Mach dich mein Geist bereit on the popular “Bach on Thursdays” series in Princeton, New Jersey. He made his debut with The Polyphony Voices of New Mexico and The New Mexico Philharmonic in J.S. Bach's John Passion (BWV 245) where he was reviewed by the Albuquerque Journal as giving an admirable account of the two alto arias, especially the emotional centerpiece of the work Es ist vollbracht! He sang Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb with the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey and the Cäcilien-Chor Frankfurt. Concluding the 2013 season, he perfomed Heinrich Schütz' Musikalische Exequien with Fuma Sacra.
In 2014 St. Thomas Choir concert series, Jeffrey Freuler sang with the famed viol consort Fretwork and with Richard Egarr and Juilliard415 in a performance of Purcell's Ode to St. Cecilia's Day and concluding the season, Mr. Freuler was the alto soloist in a performance of the J.S. Bach's Easter Oratorio (BWV 249) with the Saint Thomas Choir and Concert Royal under John Scott. |
