The Finnish flautist, Pauliina Fred, studied historical flutes at the Helsinki Sibelius Academy with Jari S. Puhakka, Mikael Helasvuo and Rabbe Forsman, and at the Utrecht and Amsterdam Conservatories under the supervision of Wilbert Hazelzet, Jed Wentz and Paul Leenhouts. She obtained her Master of Music degrees from both the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki (2001), and the Utrecht Conservatory (2001).
Pauliina Fred made her debut concert in 2004 Helsinki. She is a flute player, through and through. She has specialized in historical flutes and plays various types of whistles from Renaissance recorders to the C flute of the Romantic Era. She has even been seen jamming Bossa nova on a silver flute. She loves music by W.A. Mozart and is inspired by new music played on old-time instruments; she is totally at home with French Baroque music.
Pauliina Fred is a regular member of the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra (Director: Aapo Häkkinen; since 1997), Finnish Baroque Orchestra (since April 1998) and Oslo Baroque Orchestra. She is also a dedicated chamber musician, playing in a range of different ensembles, including the Bravade Recorder Quartet (since 2004), Zetes Woodwind Quintetm Bellman Trio and SAMA Folk Baroque Ensemble.
Pauliina Fred has performed solo and as a chamber and orchestra musician, not merely in Finland, but in other parts of Europe and even the USA and Japan. She has recorded for Naxos, Aeolus, Pilfink Records and BIS labels. She is married to Henrik Marstrander and currently lives in Helsinki, Finland. |
