The Canadian tenor, Jean-Philippe Lazure, began his formal vocal training in young artist training programs with the National Arts Centre Ottawa, University of Ottawa (2013-2014); He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music from the Université of Montréal (2013-2019). In addition, he participated in young artist training programs with the Centre d'Arts Orford and Académie Internationale d'été Nice. He is a proud graduate of the Canadian Opera Company's elite Ensemble Studio (2014-2016); and was an Artist in Residence of the Marlboro Summer Music Festival (2015). His awards include: Fondation des Amis de Francis Poulenc Prize at Joy in Singing: Positively Poulenc (2013); 2nd place at the 3rd Annual Ensemble Studio Competition of Canadian Opera Company (2013); Governor General Performing Arts Awards Mentorship award, paired with Bass Joseph Rouleau (2014); Choquette-Symcox Award at Jeunesses Musicales du Canada (2015); Jeune Ambassadeur at Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques (2016); 3rd Prize, Competition-Recital at Festival Classica (2018).
Concert highlights include C. Orff's Carmina Burana with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (2013); W.A. Mozart's Requiem with Kitchener’s Grand Philharmonic Choir (2018), W.A. Mozart's Lo sposo deluso with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (2014), George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (2018), and J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) with Choeur Classique de Montreal (2018).
Credits include Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande (Nova Scotia Opera Company (2013) and Atelier d'Opéra, University of Montreal); Chevalier de la Force in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites (Atelier d'Opéra, 2013); Beppe in Pagliacci (Opera Lyra Ottawa - Silver Cast, 2011); Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (2011), Don Curzio/Don Basilio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Mr. Gobineau in The Medium (University of Ottawa Opera Productions); and Guard in Manon and Prince of Persia in Turandot (Opera Lyra Ottawa). Recent seasons have seen Jean-Philippe Lazure performing roles such as Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte (2018), the title role in Leonard Bernstein's Candide (2018), Georgie in John Estacio’s moving opera Ours, Le Remendado in Georges Bizet's Carmen (2020), Father André and Cartier in Louis Riel. This season with the Canadian Opera Company (COC), he sings the role of Conte Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Ensemble Studio production).
