The English tenor, Julian Forbes, joined his first choir at the age of 8. He is a graduate of Trinity College (2001-2004) and the Royal Academy of Music, where he obtained his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance with distinction and the Charles Norman Prize. He was twice-elected Britten-Pears Young Artist and a member of the 2011 European Baroque Academy
Hailed by Opera Britannia for his "beautiful and bright tenor…simply oozing charisma", Julian Forbes is establishing a reputation in the UK and abroad for the musicality and intelligence of his singing across a wide repertoire spanning the 17th century to the present. He was a member of National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB) for 7 years (appearing with them in in places as diverse as the Royal Albert Hall and the Australian outback) and of Polyphony (Director: Stephen Layton).
In addition to my professional singing background, Julian Forbes has spent many years working in the classical record industry, starting out as a shop assistant in the Aladdin's cave of early music that was Heffers: Sound in Cambridge before becoming a travelling sales rep for Harmonia Mundi UK and latterly managing the Classic FM record label. This wide experience of many sides of the music world is incredibly helpful to him in his role as Marketing Manager for National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, which requires a commercial attitude to promotion alongside a heartfelt understanding of the choirs’ artistic and educational aims. In this role he creates NYCGB's marketing and publicity campaigns, manages their website and social media channels, and works on the development of the NYCGB brand. |
