The German flautist, Verena Fischer, had her modern flute training with Peter-Lukas Graf and Aurèle Nicolet in Basel.,
Thereafter Verena Fischer served on several occasions as a soloist with the Basel Radio Symphony Orchestra, with broadcasts and television appearances. She was a flautist in the Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie (German Youth Philharmonic) under Lorin Maazel, Charles Dutoit und Gary Bertini, and served two years as principal flautist in the South-West German Philharmonic in Konstanz.
Together with regular activity as a free-lance principal in the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1990 Verena Fischer began intensive study of the Baroque flute, attending master-courses with Wilbert Hazelzet, Barthold Kuijken and Konrad Hünteler. She worked with various baroque ensembles and from 1996 to 2006 was principal flautist with Musica Antiqua Köln under Reinhard Goebel, collaborating in concerts with this ensemble in the USA, Canada, South America, Asia, Israel, and throughout Europe. Many recordings of her with this ensemble were released by the Deutschen Grammophon/Archiv-Produktion.
After Musica Antiqua Köln was disbanded, Verena Fischer founded her own ensemble Concerto/Würzburg, which primarily concetrates on music of the Classical period. She is also specialized in the many-keyed flauto traverso with the music of the late 18th century. She is invited regularly to play in historical ensembles like Wiener Akademie, Freitagsakademie Bern, Concerto Melante, Hofkapelle München, Ensemble moderntimes_1800 Innsbruck.
As soloist and chamber musician Verena Fischer performed at many festivals, such as the Dresdner Musikfestspielen (Dresden Musical Festival), the Automne Musical Versailles and the Salzburg Festival. She has travelled to South Africa, Italy, Austria and Russia for master-classes and chamber concerts.
Verena Fischer has recorded, among others, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Flute Concertos and Georg Philipp Telemann's Flute Quartets. Last year two CD’s together with Léon Berben were released by Naxos: The complete 12 flute sonatas of Johann Helmich Roman and a collection of 6 Johann Joachim Quantz sonatas. Her most recent album with him is J.S. Bach’s Authentic Flute Sonatas (Oehms Classics). |
