The Croatian pianist, Ranko Filjak, studied privately under Elvira Marsić, and continued his studies under Ivo Marćek and Svetislav Stančić at the Zagreb Music Academy.
Ranko Filjak gave his first, very notable recital in 1955 Since then he has been regularly appearing as a soloist in numerous chamber groups and orchestras in addition to his duties as Professor of Piano at the Zagreb Music Academy. In addition to numerous tours around Yugoslavia, he has also toured several times in the USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania and has played under the baton of distinguished conductors such as Milan Horvat, Antonio Janigro, Jan Krenz, Zubin Mehta, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Stjepan Šulek, Volker Wangenheim, and Friedrich Zaun. It is rare to find pianists whose approach to their instrument is one of such intense delight and concentration and his repertoire is so wide.
Ranko Filjak won the Prize of the City of Zagreb in 1960 for his performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and, the Milka Trnina Prize in 1962 for his great success at home and abroad, and the Yugoslav Radio-Television Prize for his performance of the work Taches by Stanko Horvat. |
