The German conductor, Achim Fiedler, studied first violin with Saschko Gawriloff and chamber music with the Amadeus Quartet at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Following a violin grant to the London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he continued his training by studying Conducting with Franco Gallini in Milan and Thomas Ungar at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. He was subsequently invited to be a Conducting Fellow in Tanglewood Music Center Summer Courses (USA) at a master-class held by Seiji Ozawa. Soon afterwards he became an assistant with Bernard Haitink and Carlo Maria Giulini. Fiedler received the Herbert von Karajan grant in 1997 and was an award winner in several international conducting competitions including, in 1996, 1st prize at the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition in Spain.
Achim Fiedler He is equally at home in both symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire and has worked with numerous well known orchestras. He has been invited to conduct major orchestras such as the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Berliner Symphoniker, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Wiener Kammerorchester, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquestra Simfónica de Barcelona e Nacional de Catalunya Orquesta and Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria.
Since 1998 Achim Fiedler conducts the Festival Strings Lucerne. He is also the current Principal Conductor of the Folkwang Kammerorchester in Essen, Germany. |
