The Spanish mezzo-soprano, Rita Fernández Gasalla, had studied with Claire Lefilliâtre, before she pursued her musical education at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she graduated in 2023 (teachers: Rita Dams and Catrin Wyn-Davies). During her studies there, she performed the roles of Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (project with Floris Visser), Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan Tutte (Jac van Steen/ Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg, October 2022), and San Francisco in Domenico Zipolli's San Ignacio (Gabriel Garrido, Marchesato Opera Festival), and worked with Holland Opera as an ensemble member at “Kersentuin” (June-July 2023). She won 3rd Prize at the International Nina Solo Competition (Norway, June 2022).
As a concert soloist, Rita Fernández is regularly invited to the Saint Martin’s Cathedral (Utrecht, Remco de Graas), and has performed with major players in the Baroque scene, such as Residentie Bachensembles (Director: Jos Vermunt) or Castelo Consort. She also has a Lied duo with pianist Gulmira Issabekova, under the management of Arise Ensembles. For the upcoming 2023-2024 season, she is looking forward to joining the opera company The Fat Lady. Since February 2022, she is also Voice Teacher at YMCA Scheveningen in The Hague, Netherlands.
Rita Fernández holds a degree in Business Administration at IE, speaks six languages, and has placed twice second of Madrid in chess. She has done several recordings in Spain and abroad, and presented a TEDx talk on opera. |
