The Italian harpsichordist, conductor and music pedagogue, Alfonso Fedi, graduated in organ and harpsichord with distinction, and was then a student of Gustav Leonhardt at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. In 1985 he won 1st prize at the “Concorso Nazionale di Esecuzione Clavicembalistica” of Bologna.
Alfonso Fedi recorded for France Radio, Radio Colony, BBC, KRO (Holland), Radio Italian Switzerland (Lugano), Israel Broadcasting Corporation, RAI 1 and RAI 3, and appeared as a soloist in nearly all the European countries and at the most prestigious Italian venues: Amici della Musica of Perugia and Florence, Sagra Malatestiana (Rimini), Musica e Poesia a San Maurizio (Milan), Società dei Concerti B. Barattelli (L'Aquila), Segni barocchi (Foligno), Estate Fiesolana, etc. The Academy of France invited him many times to appear in Italy in the cycle Clavicembalisti d' Europe at Villa Medical (Rome). In 1997 he made a concert tour in the USA. In 2000 he joined the soprano Elena Cecchi-Fedi in their debut at the prestigious Concertgebow in Amsterdam and in the 2005 at the Miami Bach Festival, the Curt-Sachs-Saal in Berlin and at the Gartensaal Schloss Wolfsburg.
As a conductor Alfonso Fedi took part in numerous productions: Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria by C. Monteverdi (Teatro Verdi di Pisa) and Il martirio di San Lorenzo by F.B. Conti (Ausermusici, Basilica di San Lorenzo in Florence) should be mentioned in particular for the rave reviews from critics.
For many years Alfonso Fedi combined his concert activity side by side with his activities as teacher of organ, harpsicord and music. He was invited many times to hold seminaries and course of performance at the Academies of Les Andelys (France) and Breukelen (Holland), at the Conservatory of Lausanne (Switzerland) at the Accademia di Musica per Organo of Pistoia. He was a jury member of several international competitions (Geneva, Lausanne, Rovereto, Bologna). He was in charge of the Department of Ancient Musicc and taught organ and harpsichord at the institute Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (1988-2000). Subsequently he was a state nominated professor for harpsichord at the Advanced Conservatory of Geneva. He also teaches organ and Gregorian Chant at the the Conservatory of Perugia.
From 1987 to 2002, Alfonso Fedi served as a titular organist at the Basilica di San Miniato al Monte (Florence) and still carries the emeritus title. In 2002 Capitolo Metropolitano Fiorentino nominated him as Master of Cappella and titular organist of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.
