Lina Falk (Contralto)

Born: January 29, 1889 - Geneva, Switzerland
Died: June 25, 1943 - Geneva, Switzerland

The Swiss contralto, Lina Falk, studied with De La Cruz-Froehlich in Geneva and then with Georges Imbart de la Tour in Paris.

Lina Falk made her debut in the concert hall in 1922, but she was at the beginning of her career and occasionally later an opera singer. She decided then, however, for a pure concert career. From Paris she went to an intensive concert activity and toured Holland, Belgium, Germany (including a major success in 1926 in Berlin), Italy, Spain and Algeria. Until 1939 she had lived in Paris, then moved to Geneva, where she was Professor at the Conservatory. She mastered a full concert and oratorio repertoire, which focused on works from the Baroque period.

Recordings: on the labels Lumen and Columbia; Recordings of Baroque vocal music on Sonore anthology.
