The Spanish soprano, Erika Escribá-Astaburuaga, studied voice at the Conservatorio Superior with the soprano Gloria Fabuel, receiving special award for singing. She perfected her training in Barcelona, Denmark, Italy France and Canada, doing courses with Ernesto Palacio, Ileana Cotrubas, Rosemarie Landry, Ana Maria Sánchez, Anna Vandi and was selected by the accadademia Santa Cecilia di Roma under the guidance of Renata Scotto.With a grant from Académie Musicale de Villecroz she recieved classes from Dalton Baldwin and Lorraine Nubar and undertook a masters of Baroque opera under the direction of Christophe Rousset.
Winner of several international competitions both in Spain and France, Erika Escribá made her début in Catalonia in the role of Manon in the opera of the same name by Jules Massenet, after obtaining first prize in the Canto Mirna Lacambra de l’Escola d’Òpera competition in Sabadell. She won the First Prize awarded by the Press at the “Concours Internacional de Musique de Chambre in Lyon” and was selected by Ópera-Estudio 2009 performing The role of Norina from Norina de Don Pasquale de Donizetti in the Teatro Real.
Her repertoire ranges from early music to contemporary music with a predilection for French mélodie, German Lied, Spanish artsong, Baroque repertoire and Baroque zarzuela as well as French and Italian opera. Among her Opera roles, the roles of Susana in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, Gilda in Rigoleto, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Adina in L'Elisir d´amore, Giulietta in I Capuleti e Montecchi, Cleopatra in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Morgana in G.F. Handel's Alcina. stand out.
Erika Escribá has sung in prestigious festivals and concert halls such as the Teatro Real, Auditorio Nacional de Música and the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía and Palau de la Música in Valencia, the Ópera de la Coruña, the Palacio de Aranjuez, , L’Oratoire du Louvre, the Chapelle Royale in Versailles, Wigmore Hall in London, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, L’Opéra of Lyon,and the L’Opéra Royal of Versailles. She has sung at festivals such as L’Abbaye de Saint-Michel Thiérache in France, the Ars Sacrum in Bilbao, the Semana de Música Religiosa in Cuenca. She has also performed at festivals such as Daroca, Peñíscola, the Alcazar of Sevilla and Aranjuez in Spain, the Internazionale of Treviso-Roma and Rieti in Italy and the Oude Muziek in Utrecht. She also sang with Leo Brouwer in Havana where she interpreted the recital “De Valencia a La Habana” with Works by Matilde Salvador and Joaquín Rodrigo and sang the World premiere of the work Haikus that Leo Brouwer dedicated to her.
Her recent performances include works such as W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass; J. Haydn's Nelson Mass; Felix Mendelssohn's Oratorio Elias, Op.70, Heinrich Schütz' Musikalische Exequiem; F. Schubert's Mass in G major at the Palau de la Musica of Valencia; G.F. Handel's Messíah at the Malaga festival of early music with the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Aldo Ceccato; W.A. Mozart's Requiem at the Teatro Principal with the orchestra and choir of the Generalitat; .G. Verdi's Requiem at the Auditorium of Zaragoza and the Palau de la Musica of Valencia; Arias by W.A. Mozart accompanied by the Quatar Symphonic Orchestra and conducted by Christophe Rousset.
In the area of early music and Baroque Erika Escribá has sung at Festival de Musique Ancienne and Barroque of L’Abbaye de Saint-Michel-en-Thiérache, playing the role of “Chants et Danses Napolitains, de Valence a Naples” with the Capella de Ministrers, claves by I. Jordà and C. Magraner playing viol. At the XIV international festival of Baroque and early music in Peniscola she sang “Tempesta e calma, Àries d’òpera de Haendel” with the orchesteral group Ars Organica.set. Together with French pianist-harpsichordist Orhan Memed she performed “Arias de ópera Italiana” at the Institut Culturel Italien in Paris and sang “El amor de cuatro naciones”, works by Dowland, Purcell, G.F. Handel, Litres and Rameaue at the same festival. Accompanied by Orquesta la Dispersione, under the direction of J. Boils she performed Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Boccherini's Stabat Mater at the Festivales de Música Sacra Sagunt in Excelsis; She performed the concert of Spanish Baroque Zarzuela No he de enmudecer, at the Palau de la Musica of Valencia and has also performed “Arias Barrocas de José de Nebra y Antoni Literes” at the V11 international Festival of Baroque music of Calatayud. She has participated in the international festivals of Aranjuez and Daroca together with the Orchestra Camerata Iberia performing the works of “Sebastian Durón (1660-1716) y la música de su tiempo, Tonos y Arias de Zarzuela”.
With the Capella de Ministrers her performance at the Queen Sofia Spanish institute of New York stands out, playing “XII Canzonette Italiane (Dedicate alle dame)” by Martín y Soler; playing the role of Música and Ninfa in L’Orfeo, favola in música by Claudio Monteverdi, at the International Festival of Peniscola in 2007 and the concert tours of Spain intererpreting the programmes “Amore e Gelosi”. Directed by Christophe Rousset, Erika Escribá performed with Les Talens Lyriques Leçons de Ténèbres by Marc-Antoine Charpentier at the Chapelle Royale of Versailles, the Bilbao Festival Ars Sacrum, the week of sacred music of Cuenca, the Auditorio Nacional de Música of Madrid and Wigmore Hall in London. She participated in the Festival Oude Muziek Utrech 2011 performing as a soloist Histoires Sacrées by Giacomo Carissimi and Charpentier, broadcast live by Radio Néerlandaise AVRO-radio 4 and she also performed the role of Oberto from the opera Alcina de G.F. Handel, at the Opera Royal of Versailles.
Her recitals of French Melody, Spanish and latin American song stand out with programmes like those presented at the Palau de les Arts Veus Valencianes cycle “En torno a Fausto. Los placeres del pecado y sus demonios” with works by Obradors, Granados, Vives, Delibes, Gabriel Fauré, Leonard Bernstein, Francis Poulenc and Message; In the Palau de la Musica singing “Ariettes Oubliées et La Courte Paille” by Debussy and F. Poulenc with the pianist Carlos Apellaniz; At SGAEV “El lied del siglo XX”, Cycle of contemporary music; The festival of Juliol Musical al Monestir Valldigna performing together with C.Apellaniz,“Les chemins de l’amour” and “Voces de nuestras tierras”, works by Granados, Asensio, Lavilla, Guridi, Turina, Vives, Monpou, Obradors and Toldrà; The Francisco Tarrega international festival (Castellon) and the Internazionale de Rieti (Rome) performing together with Jose Luis del Puerto works by Giuliani, Martin y Soler, Schubert, Sphor, G. Fauré, Palomo, Gerhard, Barriols, Ovalle and Heitor Villa-Lobos; Festival nights in the gardens of the Real Alcazar in Sevilla where she sang "Ay, luna que reluces. Canciones españolas en la Europa de los Austrias” together with the lute player Juan Carlos de Mülder.
Erika Escribá has collaborated in the release of various musical works, performing Misa Réquiem by Salvador Giner y Vidal and Salmo 50 Miserere de Crevea y Cortés, Et egresus Est y Tu vida Prodigiosa by A. Iranzo with the participation of the Institut Valencià de la Música; She gave recitals of the work Cançonetes de l´agredolç per cant i piano con música de Asins Arbó sobre epigrames by Constantí Llombart within the programme of activities of the Llombart year,in collaboration with the SGAE and the Academia Valenciana de la Llengua; She has performed the symphony Cinc cançons valencianes by the Valencian composer Vicent Garces with concerts at the Palau de la Musica and theatres in the Valencian region accompanied by the JONDE under the direction of the maestro M .Galduf.
Recently Erika Escribá has given opera recitals in the auditorium of Alicante, the Skipe theatre and different auditoriums in Denmark. She has performed W.A. Mozart's Esxultate Jubilate together with the international chamber orchestra Chamber Virtuosi and W.A. Mozart's Requiem with the orchestra and choir of the Generalitat Valenciana. For the philharmonic society of Valencia she has performed the concert "Häendel y Rameau” with the Orquesa Dispersione; She has sung “Cantatas e Tons para o Divino” in the church of the monastry of the Jeronimos of Lisbon accompanied by the camarata Iberica; She has participated in the festival of Saintes, Abbbaye aux Dames, performing ”Musique pour le Roi Planète” Hidalgo alongside la Grande Chapelle of Madrid. At the XVIII Festival Internacional of Peñíscola she sang “Desio di Sguardi: La voz humana y sus imitadores en Italia en la primera mitad del Seicento” accompanied by the Ministriles de Marsia. At the national auditorium of Madrid she performed Les Leçons de Ténèbres by Marc-Antoine Charpentier with Les Talens Lyriques, directed by Christophe Rousset. At the Teatro Monumental of Madrid she sang G.F. Handel's Messíah with the Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro de RTVE directed by Carlos Kalmar. At the Oratoire du Louvre (Paris) she gave the recital “Romances, amour et guerre” and “L’amour dans l’Europe du XVII- XVIII siècle” with Orhan Memed, the harpsichordist. Alongside contemporary composer Pierre Thilloy she performed the work Ainsi Soit-il at the Syam festival 2014 and has starred in the world premiere of his work Xanadu 9ª Sinfonía at the Theatre La Filature de Mulhouse.

Magraner; Cançonetes de l’agredolç by Miguel Asins Arbó, with the pianist Bertomeu Jaume, for the SGAE in Valencia. Tonadillas Escénicas by Blas de Laserna along with the orchestral group La Dispersione and Cinc cançons valencianes by Vicent Garcés Queralt, with the JONDE under the direction of the maestro M Galduf. Recently she recorded Canticus Nativitatis Domini in comemoration of the 400th anniversary of the death of Tomás Luis de Victoria with the Capella de Ministrers. Her upcoming projects include the recording of a record of italian reportoire from the 17th century with the Ministriles de Marcia, and another of varied music with the guitarist J.L del Puerto and a recording of English Baroque with the harpsichordist Orhan Memed. She currently lives in Valencia, Spain. |
