Founded by Dominique Debart in 1982 at the initiative of the Regional Council and the Ministry of Culture, L’Ensemble de Basse-Normandie (= EBN) is a chamber orchestra of 18 professional musicians. Through its staff and its artistic goal, it falls so unusual and original in the panorama of French orchestras.
Due to their size and artistic goal, the EBN is so unusual and unique in the panorama of French orchestras. The actual size - 12 strings, wind quintet and piano - allows a variable geometry opens to great possibilities of repertoire, chamber music in the orchestra “concertante” through the chamber orchestra and recital.
This variable geometry is the heart of the artistic goal of the EBN because if it enhances its ability to address many directions; it also leads to openness to other forms of artistic expression: theater, cinema, dance and other musical styles.
