Paul Dutton (Tenor)

Born: Leeds, England

The English tenor, Paul Dutton, was born in Leeds. Music has been a part of his life since his career as a treble in the choir of Leeds Parish Church. As a soloist with this choir and numerous other choral societies he made television and radio broadcasts as well as a number of recordings, touring in Britain and Europe. Paul has subsequently studied music and singing with Gerald Wragg, Jean Allister, Paul Wade and Robert Dean.

Paul Dutton's career has encompassed major operatic roles and oratorio both in the UK and throughout Europe. He continues to work with Opera North and is a member of the Britten Singers. Recent solo performances have included Monteverdi's Vespers 1610, George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Samson, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah and Puccini's Messa di Gloria. Recent CD recordings include Stainer's Crucifixion, W.A. Mozart's Mass in D and Sullivan's The Light of the World. Future engagements include L.v. Beethoven's Mass in C, Stainer's Crucifixion, Haydn's Creation, and Puccini's Petite messe solenelle.

As musical director of the City of Leeds College of Music Chamber Choir, the Leeds Festival Chorus Youth Choir, the Leeds Methodist Choir, Headingley Operatic Society and Schola Portas, Paul Dutton has conducted a choral repertoire ranging from Byrd to Leonard Bernstein. He is also Choirmaster at St Mark's Church in Harrogate.
