The English tenor, Philippe Durrant, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Durham University (2015-2018) and was Choral Scholar at Durham Cathedral from 2015; and later became a Lay Clerk for 2018-2019. He was a member of Waterperry Opera Festival's 2018 Young Artist Programme. He studied with Tim Evans-Jones for a Masters of Performance at the Royal College of Music (2019-2021), where he was generously supported by a Leverhulme Arts Scholarship and the Josephine Baker Trust. He was a 2021 Alvarez Young Artist with Garsington Opera. He has participated in master-classes with Gregory Kunde, Sir Thomas Allen and Michael Chance.
Recent and upcoming operatic engagements include the Tenor Coryphée (Cover) in Le Comte Ory with Garsington Opera (April-July 2021), Don Ottavio in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni for RCM opera scenes (April 2020), Bill in Samuel Barber's A Hand of Bridge with Waterperry Opera Festival (July-August 2018), and the full role of Don José in Georges Bizet's Carmen for Durham Opera Ensemble (February 2016).

Bach's Ascension Oratorio BWV 11 (Evangelist) for RCM Baroque Orchestra conducted by Ashley Solomon (February 2020), St. John Passion BWV 245 (Evangelist) with the Avison Ensemble at Durham Cathedral conducted by Daniel Cook (March 2018), St. Matthew Passion BWV 244 (Evangelist); George Frideric Handel's Messiah at Barnes Music Festival conducted by James Day (March 2020), Parnasso in Festa with London Handel Orchestra at Wigmore Hall conducted by Adrian Butterfield and Acis and Galatea (Acis); Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai and Antonio Vivaldi's Magnificat for Thames Philharmonic Choir conducted by Harry Bradford; Monteverdi’s Vespers; Stainer’s Crucifixion at Ushaw College (February 2018).
An established ensemble singer, Philippe Durrant has sung with the Chorus at Garsington Opera and English National Opera, Philharmonia Voices conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen and Aidan Oliver (March 2020) and London Voices conducted by Ben Parry (February 2020). He regularly performs (since February 2019) with The Sixteen conducted by Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan. |
