Joanna Dobrakowska (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: January 22, ____ - Wrocław, Poland

The Polish mezzosoprano, Joanna Dobrakowska, is a graduate of the Vocal and Acting Department of the Akademii Muzycznej im. K. Lipińskiego in hher hometown of Wrocław in the class of Professor B. Makala. She continued her solo singing studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna under the supervision of Professor H. Łazarska. She participated in courses devoted to the performance of German and Spanish vocal lyrics and Baroque music in Steyr, Santiago de Compostela, Viktring and Heek, improving her skills, among others. under the supervision of I. Raimondi, D. Lutz, H. Łazarska and M. Robavs. She has participated in world premieres of works by Polish and foreign composers. She is a laureate of prizes and distinctions at national and international vocal competitions and a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Poland and the Austrian Government.

Joanna Dobrakowska presented herself in a rich repertoire of works from various eras at numerous national and international music festivals. She made her opera debut as the Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte on the stage of the Lower Silesian Opera in Wrocław (today Wrocław Opera). There was also Don Ramiro in W.A. Mozart' La finta giardiniera at Schloßtheater Schönbrunn in Vienna and Marcelina in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Festiwal Bachowski w Świdnica. In 2007 she started working with the Krakow Opera, where she has so far appeared as: Miss Eveline Huck and Molly Troodwood in the operetta Loteria na mężów (Lottery for husbands) by Karol Szymanowski, Jadwiga in Straszny dwór (The Haunted Manor) by Stanisław Moniuszko, Louise in Die Teufel von Loudun (The Devils of Loudun) Polish Krzysztof Penderecki, Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, as well as Suzuki in Madama Butterfly by G. Puccini. In 2012, she made her debut at the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera in Warsaw, singing the mezzo-soprano part in a quartet in Pascal Dusapin's Medeamaterial. Recently, at the invitation of Capella Cracoviensis, she appeared as the title role in George Frideric Handel's Amadigi di Gaula (Krakow). She has collaborated with such conductors as J. Kaspszyk, T. Kozłowski, Ł. Borowicz, Andrew Parrott, Laurence Equilbey, F. Ollu and A. Matiakh. She performs in theaters and concert halls all over Poland, as well as abroad, including in Austria, Portugal, Germany, France, Switzerland, Croatia, Belarus, Turkey, Georgia, Bulgaria, Israel, Syria and Guadeloupe.

Joanna Dobrakowska has several albums to his credit. She currently lives in Wrocław, Poland.
