Vincenzo Di Donato (Tenor)

Born: Foggia, Italy

The Italian tenor, Vincenzo Di Donato, was trained musically in several directions, obtaining the diplomas of organ and choral music and singing. He has gained numerous experiences as a choir director by performing a repertoire ranging from Renaissance music to opera choirs. Focusing his activity especially as a tenor, he perfected himself in the study of singing with L. Vannini, A. Lia Lantieri and Ivo Vinco.

Vincenzo Di Donato has collaborated with numerous Italian ensembles, favoring the Renaissance, Baroque and Oratorio repertoire; among the compositions performed various oratorios of George Frideric Handel and cantatas by J.S. Bach, Vespro della beata Vergine by Monteverdi, Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater by Rossini, Lazarus by Schubert, Eliah by Felix Mendelssohn, Requiem by Verdi, Stabat Mater by A. Dvorak, Faust-Symphony by Franz Liszt, Symphony No. 9 by L.v. Beethoven and Der Rose Pilgefahrt by Robert Schumann in RAI recording.

Vincenzo Di Donato has performed in prestigious festivals and theaters in Europe, USA (Lincoln Center, New York), South America (Avenida Theater, Teatro Coliseo, Buenos Aires), Japan (La folle journeè in Tokyo), gaining experience with conductors such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, F.M. Bressan, A. Ceccato, P. Csaba, Alan Curtis, A. Florio, Martin Gester, Roberto Gini, Andrew Lawrence-King, P. Maag, U. Michelangeli, Pál Németh, Peter Neumann, A. Orizio, F. Pirona, Valade, Sergio Vartolo.

After interpreting secondary characters in works by Provenzale and by Caccini, Vincenzo Di Donato debuted in the role of Orpheus in J. Peri's Euridice, performed in the Castle Theater of Budapest; high sustained roles: Vertumno in La Dauinia Felice by Paisiello, Thelebo in the work Amor est todo invencion by G. Facco, Conte Bellezza in the intermezzo Le donne vendicate by N. Piccinni recorded for the RSI (Swiss Italian Radio) conducted by Diego Fasolis, Polidarte in Giustino by Antonio Vivaldi. He played various characters from the works of Monteverdi, including the role of Ulisse in Ritorno di Ulisse in patria and various characters in Incoronazione di Poppea at the Strasbourg Opera directed by D. MacVicar and conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini, and other minor roles at the RSI.

In May 2007, Vincenzo Di Donato debuted the role of Orpheus in the opera of the same name by C. Monteverdi at the National Theater in Prague conducted by Roberto Gini and staged by Jiri Herman. He played the role of Scaramella in Farsa del Barba recorded for the Swiss RTSI television. In October 2015, is sang Orfeo in the work of Monteverdi performed in Duomo in Milan conducted by Roberto Balconi and staged by Kuniaki Ida. Under the baton of Roberto Gini and staged by by R. Castellucci, he participated in the show Il combattimento of the theater company Societas Raffaello Sanzio, represented in the major European capitals.

As a member of Vox Nova Italia, Vincenzo Di Donato was involved in the preparation of Allora & Calzadilla In the Midst of Things (music by Gene Coleman) at the 2015 Biennale Arte in Venice. Under the baton of Yoshi Oida he sang at the premiere of the opera Alex Langer by G. Verrando performed at the Bolzano Theater. He was also Bartolomeo in the opera La stanza terrena by Miari premiered at the Belluno Theater.

Vincenzo Di Donato has participated in RAI recordings and has recorded for numerous record labels, including Arts, Stradivarius, Opus 111, Tactus, Bongiovanni, Dynamic, Symphonia and Naxos. He was a member of Coro della Radio Svizzera (Director: Diego Fasolis; since October 1995). He is a member of the ensemble Vocale Odhecaton, obtaining various Diapason d'or for his recordings. He is director of the ensemble Templum Musicae with which he produced a recording with music by Salvatore Sacco published by Carus (disc of July 2006 by Amadeus, 5 stars on Goldberg, 5 diapason by the German cultural radio) and one for Isabella's court music by Capua Gonzaga. He is Professor at the Conservatorio "E. F. Dall'Abaco" in Verona. He currently lives in Verona, Italy.
