The Swiss conductor and violinist, Victor Desarzens, studied at the Conservatoire de Lausanne, and later with Franz von Hoeßlin.
After his studies, Victor Desarzens joined the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande as a violinist, then practiced chamber music. He founded a small ensemble which in 19422 (or 19431) became the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (OCL). He directed it until 1973. He performed many creations by Swiss composers, including Raffaele D'Alessandro, Jean Balissat, Éric Gaudibert, Peter Mieg, Armin Schibler, Julien-François Zbinden.
In 19502 (or 19481), he became at the same time director of the Musikkollegium Winterthur (Winterthur Symphony Orchestra), a position he held until 19752 (or 19761). He toured extensively abroad with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, which became an ensemble renowned for the Baroque repertoire and music. contemporary.
Victor Desarzens is, with Ernest Ansermet, one of the pioneers in the development of musical life in French-speaking Switzerland. His awards include: City of Winterthur Art Prize (1958); Doctor Honoris causa from the University of Lausanne (1963); edal of the City of Paris (1963); Prize of the City of Lausanne (1973).
