The American choral conductor and organist, Christopher Dent, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from He is a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio (1996-2001); and his Master of Mausic degree in Choral Conducting from The Ohio State University (2009-2011), where he studied with Hilary Apfelstadt, Robert J. Ward and Thomas Hart.
Christopher Dent has been Director of Music at Indianola Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Ohio since August 2015. He has served on the faculties of Ohio Wesleyan University (guest conductor of the Choral Art Society) and the Ohio State University-Marion campus where he conducted the University Chorus (September 2011-May 2014); and has served as guest conductor of festival choirs for the Columbus (Ohio) chapter of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and the 2014 Adams County (Ohio) All-County Choir...
Christopher Dent has also served as Director of Music at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Zanesville, Ohio (January 1998-August 2003); Director of Music at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio (September 2003-June 2012); Interim Director of Music at Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Ohio (June 2012-June 2014); Chorus Member in Opera Project Columbus (May-June 2014); Tenor Section Leader/Assistant Director at Linworth United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio (September-December 2014); Interim Director of Chalice Choir at First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus (April-June 2015).
Christopher Dent participated in the 2012 Professional Choral Institute (a collaboration between Seraphic Fire and the University of South Florida) as a Conducting Fellow working with Patrick Dupré Quigley and James Bass. In January 2015, he was one of five conductors selected to work with Noel Edison and the 100-plus voice Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and Elora Festival Singers as part of Toronto Mendelssohn Choir's Choral Conductor's Symposium which is part of their Emerging Conductors Program. He has served as Chorus Master for Opera Project Columbus (June 2015-July 2019); and as Artistic Director of the Magpie Consort in Columbus, Ohio (September 2016-May 2019).
With extensive experience as a trumpet player, Christopher Dent is equally comfortable working with instrumentalists of all ages which is reflected in my work as Music Director/Conductor with the Reynoldsburg Community Band (March 2006-August 2010). He currently lives in
