The Belgian bass-baritone, Bertrand Delvaux, sang as a boy in the Namur-based ensemble La Choraline. Following a degree in Physics Engineering (Space Technology), he began to pursue musical studies, first at the Conservatory in Liége with Greta de Reyghere, later in the baroque singing class of Monique Zanetti at the Conservatory of Metz and in the Conservatory of Maastricht with Frans Kokkelmans.
As a soloist, Bertrand Delvaux' repertoire is widely varied. He has been heard in Benjamin Britten's Death in Venice (Youth) with Opéra de la Monnaie, Purcell's The Fairy Queen (Puck: The Drunken Poet and Coridon) with Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona (Uberto) and Offensbach's La Périchole (Vice-Rol) with Brussels Operette Theater, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia with Idée Fixe (Fiorello), B. Britten's Little Sweep (Black Bob) with Festival de Walonnie, Debussy's Pelleas et Mélisande (Golaud) and Prokofiev's The Gambler with Opera Zuyd, Offensbach's Les Bavards (Sarmiento) with Les Bouffles d'Europe, Johann Adolf Hasse's Ipermestra (Danao).
In the oratorios field Bertrand Delvaux has perfomed such works as Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, J.S. Bach and Reinhard Keiser St. Marc Passion, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Krönungs-Messe, Charpentier's Messe de Minuit and Oratorio de Noël, as well as numerous cantatas by J.S. Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and Dietrich Buxtehude. He also performed a solo recital of the music of Dmitri Shostakovich. |
