The Dutch bass, Erks Jan Dekker, first studied Criminal Law at Utrecht University. As a member of the Utrecht Student Choir and Orchestra (USKO) he became aware of the possibilities of his voice and in 1997 he received his first singing lessons from Evert Jan Nagtegaal. He went on to study voice with Henny Diemer and Harry Peeters at the Utrecht Conservatorium and was awarded his Bachelor degree in music in 2004. He has followed master-classes with Jard van Nes, Udo Reinemann and Marco Beasley and worked in opera projects with conductors Kenneth Montgomery and Jan Willem de Vriend.
Erks Jan Dekker's great passion is singing in ensembles. Since September 2006 he has been 2nd Bass in the Groot Omroepkoor (Netherlands Radio Choir). Besides that he is also active as a freelancer in the Nederlands Kamerkoor (Netherlands Chamber Choir), Cappella Amsterdam (Director: Daniel Reuss), De Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe) and the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Director: Peter Dijkstra). |
