The German conductor, Ute Debus, studied music at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik der Westfälischen Landeskirche in Herford, where she passed her Church Music B-exam. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover and finished them with with A-Diploma in Church Music. Choir directing courses with Eric Ericson, Volker Hempfling and Frieder Bernius completed her training.
Since 1991 Ute Debus works as Kantor at the Nikolaikirche in Siegen and directs the Evangelische Kantorei Siegen, a traditional regional choir, the Evangelischen Kirchenchor Siegen, and in 1998 she created a small vocal ensemble "capella cantabilis" with which she primarily challenging performance of a-cappella works.
Besides the intensive work in concerts with her choirs, Ute Debus gives concerts as organist and a soloist and in collaboration with choirs, singers and instrumentalists and is a lecturer in choral conducting, organ, Tonsatz and hearing education.
As a soprano, Ute Debus sings with the six-voice "ensemble vocalitas", founded in 2004. Since the winter semester of 2004-2005 she directs the choir and orchestra of the University of Siegen, where she teaches ensemble direction. In 2006, she was awarded with the title "Kirchenmusikdirektorin" ("Church Music Director"). |
