The English mezzo-soprano and career in arts Administratior, Helen Daniels, studied at Blue Coat Church of England School in Coventry (2004-2011). She first began singing when she joined Coventry Blue Coat School Choir at the age of 11 and went on to sing solos in York Minster, and Salisbury and Wells Cathedrals. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the University of Cambridge (2011-2014). During her time at Cambridge University she was a choral scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge and studied with Fiona Dobie and sang in the Trinity College Choir of Cambridge (Director: Stephen Layton). Now learning with Paul Farrington, she hopes to pursue a solo career as a mezzo-soprano.
Solo work has included Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria and J.S. Bach’s St John Passion (BWV 245). She has also played the supporting female, Liddy, in the student-composed opera Far From the Madding Crowd (Barnaby Martin, 2012), Romeo in Purcell’s Fairy Queen: Re-imagined (Sophie Rashbrook, 2012) and Lapak in Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen (2013). Helen Daniels has recorded numerous CDs with Trinity College Choir of Cambridge and has toured America, Canada and Germany with the ensemble in her three years as an undergraduate. As well as singing, she also plays the clarinet and piano.
Helen Daniels has worked as Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra Manager, CUMS Marketing and Fundraising Co-ordinator at Cambridge University Musical Society (July 2014-July 2015); Concerts and Tours Assistant at Philharmonia Orchestra (July 2015-February 2016); Concerts and Promotions Officer at Tenebrae Choir (Director: Nigel Short) (since Febuary). She also performs as mezzo-soprano with Mousai Singers. She currently lives in London, England. |
